if you look around there used to be far less people using online shopping but at the right time efficiency increased which caused increase in consumption too
so let me be clear im thinking if you look around there are far less people now using the software for optimizing life. for eg. i see very few people around me using software for tracking tasks, but i use and i can see a significant difference (once i started using consistently)
my assumption is software getting cheap can cause more and more people to use more software. hence increasing the efficiency in writing software will cause increase in the consumption of software too.
