"A short break lets my willpower muscles recharge. Five minutes works well for me; longer periods erode depth more sharply. If the break is done right, it won’t disrupt depth of concentration much. The important thing is to diligently avoid doing anything cognitive during the break: reading or thinking about another topic imposes higher switching costs. My favorite activity is to do simple household chores. I’ll pick things up, wash dishes, and prep vegetables for dinner."
