CaT Lab meeting today, we reviewed the Listener's Guide paper (that I forgot to read... :') ) but we did talk about qualitative research and methodology generally. I feel like I learned a lot from the meeting. One of Dr. Manago's comments about master vs. alternative narratives is still rolling around in my head, paraphrased: "Even when you specify your alternative narrative, it's in response to a master narrative. I was at this party one time, talking with this man about my work [...] and then he pauses and he asks me, 'You don't have children, do you?'" I mean my left hand literally went up to my mouth it was that shocking. Dr. Manago didn't seem too torn up about it (she framed it as a funny story), but Jesus almighty. Wrapped up the lab meeting, talked with Georget about the poster, talked with Emily about one of our participants Octopus and ongoing qual. interpretive work, and I spent 45 or so minutes finishing up my codes on Lumi and marking up the codes of interest for Wednesday's coding crunch. Dr. Manago is visiting that day as well. Yippee! I feel like I'm hella parasocial with her at this point. Not sure if it's faux paus to crash her PSYC 116 course this Thursday. Will ask. Studied for an hour at McHenry Library and checked out a couple of books about qualitative research. Headed home but not before grabbing some kefir and coffee from Trader Joe's first. I've been sleeping pretty late this weekend (probably because I've been doing lab work... oyyy) so I'd like to knock back my sleep schedule tonight.
