Middle of Thanksgiving at this time of writing. Woke up around 9:45am this morning, had a turkey/avocado/lettuce/honey dijon mustard sandwich and a little bit of deeply savory Khmer chap chae. Grazed on some more food including but not limited to more chap chae, seafood salad, lobster fried rice, seasoned beef sticks, roast beef. Aunt Kun and Uncle Mike came over relatively early with Aunt Lang and Uncle Thai; I got to talk with Uncle Mike a good bit about higher education, powerful professors, batshit grading, and even privilege (Uncle Mike called it provenance — why do people perform better in school than others? it comes from parents front-loading effortand education onto their children, it comes from time investment, it comes from already being educated). I had always known the notion of socioeconomic privilege was incomplete, but his final bit of advice really sticks with me: you retain the power to control your time and experience dedicated to any particular subject or goal. I've taken a lot of photos of food and family/family friends as well, so far.
