Woke up groggy around 8:09, went back to sleep until 9:30, lamped in bed for 15 minutes and got ready. Had breakfast from last night's leftover soup and rice, and some oolong cold brew. No ice though so I tried to drink it as soon as possible before it got warm lol. Packed up and headed out around 1pm, got back to town around 41 minutes later. But the traffic on most of I-880 was just awful. Really strange speed differentials of 15-20 mph of slow-and-speed traffic that, honestly, made me go a little crazy. No unsafe driving of course, but I don't remember passing so many people in such a short time. Thank goodness my UX is so nimble up to speed. Visited Fosters Freeze to say hi to dad and uncles, got back home unpacked, then headed to Paris Baguette to get a birthday cake for Seth and some coffee from Starbucks later. Unwound the rest of the day, spent some time on Twitter and read some articles. Didn't do much work on SotC 3.0.
A day later, my feelings on the death of Charlie Kirk are detached disgust. I'm not in the conservative sphere. I'm not really in the progressive sphere either. I'm a constitutional moderate and pragmatist. So I look at this guy and I think, I'm not going to whitewash this tragedy. First, Kirk spent his career stirring the pot as a pretty strong conservative. Second, he was also targeted by a terrible person with terrible means in the right time and place. Did Kirk sow the seeds for his own murder? That depends on how much you think he single-handedly shifted the discourse and incited enough reflexive hatred (or whatever motive) for him, and how much you want to guess the killer's motives. Kirk was a symptom of polarization through and through. I hope we don't see more copycat incidents going forward, but you never know.
