One open question for Pale Fire is, why didn't Kinbote write the novel himself? Sickness aside, he clearly has the lexical and syntactic ability, what with those reams of apothecarian sentences. Attachment to source grounds the work, but what if the work already swelled in complexity and vividness? Wouldn't the source just return to inspiration? Kinbote's excuse is that he simply cannot tell the difference between reality and fantasy. I don't have much excuse, especially when you look at Ladon and Orange. Ladon and Orange's original premise (and color-coding! Ladon originally had a blue motif) was from DirkJohn, but Ladon and Orange have grown well beyond Homestuck, and the resulting script is nothing like Homestuck at all. As Prof. Manago said, you should be careful not to overattribute your insights to your read authors...
