I feel like reading Pale Fire was the best inspiration for Soteriology of the Coherent. I went into it looking for that sense or level of vocabulary to strive to, but it also showed me the displeasures of being too derivative. What is the story, anyway? Is it ever that much connected to shooting bullets and dodging enemies? Or is it more a story of rebellion against an unfair, conservative cult of personality turned social institution? Man flees local society. Man discovers reform in broader society. Man returns to topple tyrant. Man cedes power back to the people.
