Trying to revitalize this habit. Did I fall off? No — my photos and lecture notes and talks with friends (Sasha, Richard, Kevin — though Kevin I find is somewhat disagreeable, a couple texts to Micah) still ring true.
Woke up a bit earlier than 9:00. Rested well, felt great. Got ready for the day and had a bigger than usual breakfast at Porter. Chorizo/egg/cheese panini, scrambled eggs, a few tater tots, an oatmeal bowl that was more pineapple/blueberry/mango/coconut shreds than oatmeal.
A big coffee for a big Zoom lecture. Big in the sense that it took a while. 18g regular caff + 8.5g decaf. And with that, the green bag of decaf that I've had for two quarters is finally slain. "So be it; see to it". (Ruha Benjamin) Did I mention I got some thick Chemex-style filters recently? They work fantastic. Didn't do much in CMPM 80H over Zoom because Prof. Reza Habibi had to review some other groups. I'm sure our essay is rock solid though. Me and Vivian locked in yesterday, outlining and drafting it. 7 pages, double-spaced, APA format, and citations out the wazoo — what's not to love?
PSYC 116 was invigorating as ever. I came a bit late but the first couple of slides were review from last Thursday. (Can you believe it's the end of April already? With little COVID-19 angst in the way of this month, you'd have thought I would be over it. Possibly I am.) Highlight of the lecture: Mentions of Curtis Yarvin's neoreactionary accelerationism and how it relates to ongoing Silicon Valley developments in AI. Our professor, bless her heart, even said "moldbug". We got off early and I stayed by a minute to ask Prof. Adriana Manago what she meant by a "social system" in order to intervene with AI. Like last Thursday, when I asked for clarification on the moral phenomena around social media, Prof. Manago was very warm and informative.
Back in the dorm between lectures I looked up some info about UI/UX.
Cognitive neuroscience focused on the dorsal pathway. Finally, something I know! PSYC 120 was a gem in retrospect. We got off lecture early as well.
Had a big dinner at Rachel Carson. Maybe a bit too big. I was struggling to finish my salad near the end — or maybe it was the bland chicken that I shredded and put on top of it. Thank god for YouTube videos of Susan Kare and Aleks Krotoski.
Spent the rest of the night trying to unwind with some photo editing and checking my old journal entries (what a throwback!).
MUAH! I'm sorry I can't be here more often. I'll try to be more in medias res. All this minutae that enters and escapes my dorm life — how quick I'll forget it — I will chart out by the end of this school year, either contiguously or in a composite.
