Blogs
A lot of fun blogs I read, my own entertainment-through-mobile, are what I'd categorize as insight porn or mental models, and they mostly oscillate from being about computer science/programming, business or everyday psychology.
These blogs are ego-boosting at worst, and actually insightful at best. On one hand, it might make one wonder as if one has read something profound, and thus possess unique/important insights about a particular concept, and on the other hand, a fog lifts, things get demystified, and we get better perspectives about the world at large.
Starting on this path I personally was a victim of the former (but this was a personal problem, not because the blogs branded themselves as imparting important knowledge/insights) and it took time for me to realize my internal biases, and learn from them as well. The reasons were simple amalgamation of the ego that comes from having an inherent interest in STEM fields and reading, finding tech twitter during the ai boom and other things as well.
Although now, a few months and mistakes down the line, I find reading these blogs more satisfactory and pleasant than before. There's less of looking-for-something intent, and more of casual consumption.
Recently I read a good take on experimental history, which was exciting. Another on botany, and yet another on business/startups. They are pleasant, casual and, in my personal opinion, a great way to pass ones time.
